Preoperative Carbohydrate Loading Comparison

Juven has key wound-healing ingredients that go beyond basic nutrition. It contains arginine to help increase blood flow, and glutamine to help the body build new tissue. It also has collagen protein, which stimulates collagen formation. Collagen formation is critical to the wound healing process. And it has HMB to help protect muscle cells. It also has vitamins C, E, B12, and zinc to support wound healing and immune health. Drinking two packets of Juven per day offers essential nutrients when diet alone isn't enough.

Juven is targeted nutrition therapy to support wound healing in patients with inadequate nutrition sores, such as those with diabetic wounds (like foot ulcers), surgical wounds, burns, and other wounds.

Immune-supporting nutrition shake; drink 2-3 shakes per day, 5-7 days before and after surgery.

For carb loading before surgery; drink 2 bottles the night before and 1 bottle up to 2 hours prior to surgery.

For continued recovery, drink 2 shakes per day.

One 10-fl-oz bottle of Ensure Pre-Surgery contains 50 g of carbohydrates, the amount recommended by ERAS Society guidelines for preoperative carb loading.‡ A patient would have to drink more than twice that amount of the leading sports drink at a time to get the same amount of recommended carbohydrates. Ensure Pre-Surgery is low in osmolality, which means it leaves the stomach quickly.5 That allows a patient to drink it up to 2 hours before surgery and can mean reduced postoperative nausea and vomiting.6,7
