All our coffee beans are roasted in small batches under the watchful eye of our master roaster. Roasting requires the expertise of a scientist and the eye of an artist to bring out the natural qualities of a bean and highlight its best flavors.
Our business model emphasizes the efficient use of natural resources, as well as sustainable growing and harvesting practices that honor the planet and protect workers. Single-origin coffees are created using beans sourced from one location. “Location” generally means coffee-growing regions, which are well-defined.
The well-defined wet and dry seasons of Tres Rios produce the perfect soil and climate for growing coffee. Thick deposits of volcanic ash from the Irazu Volcano provide rich organic matter that gets distributed to plant roots, helping them to retain moisture. In fact, this area was one the regions first chosen for coffee planting in Costa Rica, because experts recommended planting coffee at higher altitudes, protecting them from the buffeting of wind with rows of trees.
